Sivasagar which is also spelled as Sibsagar, is a city in and capital of the Sivasagar district of Assam, India. The place lies roughly about 360 kilometres northeast of the city of Guwahati. This place is surrounded by the Dehing rainforest, where the Dihing and Lohit rivers meet each other. One can witness an old civilization in this area along with a group of old structures comprising three Hindu temples of Sivadol, Vishnudol (meaning temple of the Lord Vishnu) and Devidol (meaning temple of the Goddess Durga) shrines, and a museum.
This place was the old capital named ‘Rangpur’ for the Ahom kings from the years of 1699 to 1788 AD and this is what is Sivasagar today.
